Pretty awesome if I don't say so myself. But I'm in complete agreement about QB being BS about forcing upgrades every 2-3 years. So with that in mind, I'm working with my developer to pull all the functionality out of quickbooks and into filemaker resulting in no need for QB, but keeping some of the functions my accounting dept. has become familiar with and actually uses. Once this is complete, we will also build an iPad version layout of our system, allowing us to run our business on an iPad alone. Of course, we are in marketing so design and other programs will be run on a Mac or PC, but we will finally say GOODBYE to Quickbooks. If anyone would like a demonstration of how our system works and steps and costs invloved, please feel free to reach out to me @ mbaron@prewardsltd.com I hope I can help others find a great solution for their business.

Re: Where the Microwave Goes – The Long Story

Wonderful designs.

Re: Seeking Quickbooks Alternatives (Before I Stick a Shrimp Fork In My Twitching Left Eye)

True, storing any data in the cloud is nerve-wracking. It does seem to be the way of the future, though. I keep feeling that as internet connections get fast enough, we'll be moving back to the mainframe-and-terminal style of computing I recall from college, in which the computer on the desk (or in your hand, or embedded in your scalp, or whatever) is doing almost nothing. Sure, it's a recipe for disaster, but isn't it also a recipe for disaster having every small business operator managing their own data?

Re: Seeking Quickbooks Alternatives (Before I Stick a Shrimp Fork In My Twitching Left Eye)

Seems like a great idea, but no thanks. Do you really want your personal company data stored on some remote server that doesn't belong to you? Not me. :/ If you find any other alternatives to Quickbooks, that work offline. Please post it! I've tried them all, and none seem to have the features that Quickbooks does without the bloatedness.

Re: Where the Microwave Goes – The Long Story

Very beautiful! There just doesn't seem to be a decent alternative, neither for PC nor for Mac. I know exactly what you mean about the forced upgrades, too. I'm still searching, and I know that lots of other people are, too.

Re: Seeking Quickbooks Alternatives (Before I Stick a Shrimp Fork In My Twitching Left Eye)

I am sick to death of the forced upgrades every two years. By forced, I mean if you don't they cut off basic functionality by ending "support" for anything involving outside contact from within the program. It's also pretty buggy and tends to crash upon opening a lot.

Any information on alternatives for PC?

Re: Seeking Quickbooks Alternatives (Before I Stick a Shrimp Fork In My Twitching Left Eye)

Bill, I'm right there with you. Every year at tax time, when I spend the most time with Quickbooks, it rankles me the most, I go searching, and come back to Quickbooks. Same thing happened this year, except I searched a lot more than I have in the past, and still, I came back to Quickbooks. Everything I read about the Mac version throws up red flags, and the online version seems really weak, not to mention completely overpriced. So I continue with Quickbooks running on a PC. Like you, I have absolutely no faith in it, and back it up obsessively, fearing that it's always just an instant away from ruining my life for at least a few days or a week, which is what it would take to reconstruct things well enough to get it off my mind.

I certainly will let you know if I learn of any other really good options, and I'd love it if you would try to remember me if such options become available to you!
D.
Re: Seeking Quickbooks Alternatives (Before I Stick a Shrimp Fork In My Twitching Left Eye)

Hi David, let me know what you find. I absolutely despise QuickBooks and I'm always afraid that it is going to crash and corrupt my entire company file. There aren't many alternatives that I have found so it looks like I'm stuck with the QuickBooks POS (I'm not talking about Point of Sale here).
